Maricela Eslora Headshot (2).jpgA highly competitive NASA program selected St. Philip’s College Public Health student Maricela Eslora for its next NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) Summer/Fall 2022 cohort. Maricela is the second St. Philip’s College student selected for the program.

NCAS builds a diverse future STEM workforce by engaging two-year degree-seeking students in authentic learning experiences. It opens doors for 2-year community college students seeking a STEM degree by offering three unique experiences. Scholars get a close look at NASA’s unique missions and research to learn how to develop their talents, interests, and passions. Scholars participate in one of three NASA missions.

Maricela is the current president of Psi Kappa Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In 2021, she participated in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week White House virtual roundtable with National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Dr. Anthony Fauci. Maricela was one of five HBCU student leaders from across the country to participate. The roundtable discussed the work students are doing to vaccinate their communities.
